Special Programs Working Group

The Greenbuild Special Programs Working Group oversees the development and delivery of innovative educational programs, formats, and conference features.

This group is charged with the continued evolution of the Greenbuild brand and ensuring cutting-edge conference offerings and attendee experience. The Greenbuild Special Programs Working Group works under the direction of and in close collaboration with the Education Events Committee and Program Working Group to support USGBC’s mission and educational objectives. Working Group members are expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Committees and Working Groups.

This is a volunteer role.

  • Bi-monthly conference calls beginning in January 2019 through December 2019
  • Review sessions in the first round of review for Greenbuild – Jan. 22 – Feb 5, 2019
  • Participate as working group liaison in Greenbuild Bucket Teams to provide support on Special Set session selection - Feb. 13 – Mar. 6, 2019
  • Attend the SPWG retreat in Atlanta, GA – April 5, 2019
    • Review selected Special Set sessions from those submitted through the Call for Proposals
    • Determine Special Set room designs and setup for Greenbuild
  • Participate in 3 speaker calls as Special Set liaison. Calls to include direct interaction with speaker and session coordination. July – October 2019
  • Attend Greenbuild 2019 in Atlanta, GA (Nov 19-21, 2019); while onsite you will:
    • Assist with onsite rehearsals for Special Sets
    • Attend special set sessions assigned onsite

Required

  • USGBC Member or Employee of USGBC Member Company
  • Experience in any of the following areas:
    • Green Building Education
    • Educational Program Development
    • Presentation Delivery/Public Speaking
    • Interior Design
    • Social Media and Brand Strategy
    • Theatrical Productions

Preferred

  • Previous Greenbuild attendance
  • Experience working with the development or delivery of educational formats
  • A knowledge of specialized topics focused on the intersection of art, technology, social responsibility and sustainability
  • Educational programming/abstract review experience for Greenbuild and/or other industry conferences
  • LEED Professional Accreditation
  • LEED-certified project design, construction, operations and/or management experience
  • Diverse industry conference, exposition and event attendance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • Cutting-edge innovations and technologies
    • Current tradeshow leaders and trend-setters
    • Green building industry trends and drivers
    • Industry continuing education requirements and offerings
    • Adult learning theory and strategies

Bi-weekly conference calls and one in-person retreat, independent research, direct interaction with presenters and session coordination. Volunteer time is estimated 3-10 hours per month over the time of the working group.

Please note that USGBC policy states that individuals may not serve on more than three USGBC committees and two working groups at any one time. Any one member organization may not have more than one representative on any one Committee and, except for federal government agencies, may have representatives on a maximum of five Committees and four Working Groups at any one time. Additionally, individuals are limited to four consecutive years on any one committee or working group.
